San Miguel Cozumel Mexico 158 years old

The community Cozumeleña is leaving to pass unnoticed an important date, 21 of November arrives the 158th anniversary of the day in which the Congress of the State of Yucatan, and that of then the territory of Quintana Roo, emitted the decree by which officially the village of San Miguel of Cozumel was created .

The professor Veudi Vivas Valdez, expert in the history of Cozumel, flames the attention on this important date that for some reason, nobody in Cozumel officially recalls .

The professor explains that November 21, 1849, barely some two years after the repopulation of the island by-product of the Mayan rebellion in the peninsula, when the August Congress of the State of Yucatan, emitted the decree by which the official category of town was given "to old Ranch San Miguel, in the island of Cozumel".

Next Wednesday 21 marks158 years and as says Vivas Valdez, is an event that perhaps was only celebrated once, the same year that happened and probably never more, for which would be be a great historic value to rescue that date for the civic calendar of the island.

Professor Veudi recalls that in 1849 the category of town for San Miguel of Cozumel was decreed, with a census of near one thousand inhabitants, "that nowadays would be invading land and called parachutists, but that thanks to that decree they had the opportunity to legalize their lands".

The governor of the State of Yucatan, at that time was Mr. Miguel Barbachano and the secretary general Mr. Francisco Martínez of Arredondo; the Congress presided over by Mr. Vicente Solís, like the representative president.

Each leader of family that settled in the island received free title a land of "30 sticks by 50 of land" located according to drawings; those lands, that now remain in the "first picture", they are now an important land asses of the descendants of those people.
