IRONMAN competition in Cozumel 2009

The famous Ford "Ironman" world championships are moving to Cozumel for a portion of the 2009 segment and possibly for the following five years.

2009 Ford Ironman World Championships in Cozumel will include biking and running competitions among world class atheletes who will be coming from various parts of the globe.

Explaining, the director of the Cozumel Tourism Promotions said that this event will be held on the island during the hotel occupancy off-season; the third week of November 2009. He added that the contract with the Ironman brand is for five years, meaning that the island of the swallows will host this competition until the year 2014.

This can be an extraordinary boost for Cozumel's world-wide publicity but the amount of tourism the event creats within it's own is significant as atheletes travel with trainers, family and friends so the numbers of people who are here for these productions will generate business for not only the hotels, but restaurants, bars and tour operators.

This great accomplishment on the part of Cozumel Tourism Department can bring literally millions of dollars to the island tourism sector and an extraordinary cultural benefit to the community as a whole.
