More Ferry Service to Cozumel
With four new boats they will start the third ferry service provider offering ship transportation service between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, and vice versa. On Monday the mayor Juan Carlos Gonzalez will travel to Mexico City to sign the charter of the new business representing 5 percent participation that the municipal government will have.
The Cozumeleño mayor explained that within the agreement between investors and municipality, on Monday he signed the charter with the new company, representing 5 percent participation that the municipal government will have and 15 percent for local entrepreneurs, while two other companies have 40 per cent stake each and will provide the bulk of capital.
He said the new start-up shipping company is worth $20 million, which represents the cost of four new vessels they will use starting the shipping company.
He said that so far the company has no name, but the idea is to be called Island of Peace, also will be participating entrepreneurs with capital from China and Singapore, in fact, the boats will be built in China and the idea is that they are for Caribbean seas and in less than six months they will begin the process of required paperwork with the Merchant Navy and Ports Coordination.
Said Juan Carlos Gonzalez, it is intended to start four ships with a capacity of 250 passengers each and can travel up to 70 knots, which is resulting in very fast crosses, with fares lower than those companies that now offer their crossing service to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel
